Completing a takeover of the Grand Old Party that few thought was possible, Donald Trump won the nomination for President of the Republican Party on Tuesday night, as Trump’s home state of New York put the real estate mogul over the top at, securing his unlikely victory at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

“Congratulations, Dad, we love you,” said Trump’s son, Donald J. Trump, Jr., as he announced the vote of the Empire State.

“This is not a campaign anymore, it’s a movement,” the younger Trump declared.

While there had been a lot of bruised feelings over the primary fight involving Trump and other Republican candidates, only a little of that was evident during the vote.

For example, when John Kasich would get votes, you could hear the Ohio delegation cheer loudly, while there would be boos scattered throughout the convention arena.

But when Trump was declared the winner, there was no real negative reaction that I heard – and other reporters seemed to concur.

While some elected Republicans in Congress remain unswayed by Trump, others immediately took the news to social media, as they argue the Republican Party needs to immediately coalesce behind Trump.

But for others within the GOP, the final act of nominating Trump was still hard to believe, like Adrian Gray, now a GOP strategist, who once worked for George W. Bush and the Republican National Committee.

The big question is how many people who don’t like Trump end up voting for him in November.

Donald Trump is the Republican Party nominee.
