Mike Pence releases tax returns

By Jamie Dupree

Republican Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence released ten years of income tax returns on Friday, making Donald Trump the only member of the Republican or Democratic ticket to not make that financial information public.

The documents show that Pence’s income over the last decade hit a high of $187,000 when he was a member of Congress. Pence made $113,000 last year as Governor of Indiana.

A Pence spokesman used the release to take a jab at Hillary Clinton as well.

“These tax returns clearly show that Mike and Karen Pence have paid their taxes, supported worthy causes, and, unlike the Clintons, the Pences have not profited from their years in public service.”

As for the Clinton campaign, they focused not on the Pence numbers, but on the refusal of Donald Trump to release his own tax returns.

“Trump has continued to hide behind fake excuses to avoid coming clean with the American people,” the Clinton campaign said in a written statement.

Nominees for President of the Democratic and Republican parties have routinely released their tax returns over the last forty years.

Trump has said he is being audited by the IRS, and is not allowed to release his tax returns.

Democrats have scoffed at that explanation.
